Where would you wear this?

I like the comments made on the other fashion post from yesterday. I would love to hear your ideas on where you would wear these designs from the Autumn/winter collections. So, get clever!

I just want to add that I like these things, even if they seem sometimes rather useless.

#1 - Immediate smart mouth answer would be “the rodeo”, but in truth, if one were to lose some of the frou (mostly the feathers) at the neckline, this is really a nice look! Did one work at an upscale office, one could even wear it there. It goes most anyplace daytime, from shopping to a cafe afternoon.

#2 - Since my feet are on front way round, I couldn’t wear this, even did I want to, which I don’t.

#3 - Judith, I think you’ve gone round the bend on this one - those cutesy little girl puffy sleeves with that cleavage? Ugh! That model is skinny as a rail, and STILL looks hippy.

#4 - This is a really nice look (ok, I’m conservative clothes-wise - have been most of my life!) It goes anywhere the jeans and t-shirt outfit goes, and looks a heck of a lot better! LOVE those pants!

#5 - I’d put a bra under it for starters, then give it to some poor girl in need of a prom dress. This dress isn’t made for grownups. Gorgeous color, though.

#6 - Oh, my! Were one that skinny, one could wear this to present the trophies at a prestigious automobile race, perhaps…

#7 - This is the “something more comfortable” one slips into apres other, more public, activities… de riguer accessory would be a silver tray with 2 glasses and a carafe of red wine on it.

#8 - About the only thing I can see this used for would be crazy-quilting scraps.

Do you suppose if the current trend towards models who look like people instead of line drawings continues, that the improved diet might allow some of them to smile again? I know the look is supposed to be “haughty”, but for the most part, they come across as angry or petulent.

It is up to the designer’s stylists. If they say smile, smile. One this year had the gals making faces.
With the pink one, wouldn’t you worry there would be gossip she was pregnant?
Last one– you don’t have red hair!

Just to let you all know, I added a photo at the front because it wouldn-t ley me add at the bottom, so Lynn-s comments start with what now looks like number 2.  I don-t think she would wear the white job to work.

Past finding this a most entertaining subject, it is far above my comprehension for intelligent comment. I did, however, appreciate “What to wear to the opera” because you explained what was worn when and why cleavage. Me, I would have worn number three outfit for orchestra seat. Or other way around!

I would only wear one of these– the bonnie and clyde looking outfit!

Come on, ladies. Imagine that you have a perfect figure and places to go!

I don’t like fashion because is done only for young and/or rich women. Young and rich people are allowed to do everything they like. Common people are not.

  • 8. Judith  |  February 25th, 2007 at 2:41 pm

Gianna, you are the person I know who dresses the most fashionably in our town. (I don’t know that girl who bicycled by wearing a 1940s dress)

Anyway I am younger than Babbo Natale and you are much much younger than me. And by the standards of the world, we are both rich.

LOL! No, but it would be fab for clubbing, now that the errant cigarette butt isn’t a danger for setting those sleeves on fire.

Lauging again - hadn’t even THOUGHT about the pregnancy angle! Been so long since it’s been a factor in my life, I tend to tune it out.

I’m not a redhead, but I am a very fair-skinned dark-hair-turned-silver, so I know all about my favorite color. What I dislike about this dress is the seaming for the sake of seaming, mostly, and the schitzoid approach to the boobs. First, use a neckline that’s intensely flattering to those with large ones, then seam the horizontal band to squoosh them down to the ankles. Then, put in vertical seams intended, one would think, to fit the bodice, which fail miserably. Look at the way they pooch and pucker! And in a fabric that will show every tiny flaw! Then, just to make the wearer look as short and squat as possible, put in that waistline seam. I do like the sleeves, though, and the fabric, which is why I’d save it for crazy quilting.

Buy those poor girls some food!

  • 11. Judith  |  February 26th, 2007 at 1:06 pm

They’re getting fatter, Gil! They have hips now, bony as they may still be.

    1. Not really my style, the sleeves are a bit puffy and I don’t much like the transparency
    2. Love the hat, the rest of the outfit is a bit too raggedy Anne for me
    3. Good to have some padding, cause with those shoes I would definitely fall. Shoes are great btw
    4. No, not my thing, not too fond of animal print.
    5. Love the trousers and the little beret, come to think of it yes, I like the whole outfit
    6. Beautiful dress, although pink is not my thing. I would love it in gold, or navy…
    7. I’m way too boring and conservative to even contemplate wearing this weird thing
    8. This is it! I love the sleeves, the colour, it’s very sexy. Yes please!
    9. Why does she look so miserable? The dress doesn’t do it for me. The colour is wrong, the shape, the hemline. The nail polish.

    Great fun!

I am going to Florence looking for fabrics which would work for the “cowgirl” outfit. I’m going to try to adapt it. It’s got lots of details that interest me. I’ll leave off anything fringey though. Overall, I love the colors and the fitiing and I want it– or most of it.
