Ooh I found the non vanilla baking powder at my local supermarket (I think - haven't tried it yet) - it's called "Polvere Lievitante Pizzaiolo" by PaneAngeli. It has the same ingredients as the usual baking powder minus the fake vanilla. I was so excited to see it - now I can do non-vanilla anzac biscuits too. :)

Must try this recipe tonight!

Oooh thanks. I've never seen self-rising flour here but that's probably because I'm sans car so I shop at our dinky local supermarket. I'll try hitching a ride with my friend with a car to Auchan and see if I can find either vanilla-less baking powder or self raising flour.

You can substitute self rising flour or look in a bigger supermarket. There are so many reasons to have baking powder without vanilla! (Most of the, American, but not all-- scones, for example. ) There are also recipes on the internet for making baking powder, but they require cream of tartar or acido tartarico which you must buy at a farmacia. Good luck, anyway.

oooh I want to make this but one problem - i can't find baking powder (lievito di dolce) without vanilla in it here. I imagine vanilla would taste a little weird in dumplings. What's your solution?

He likes the chicken and vegetables but isn't too keen on the dumplings. I guess he doesn't know what to make of them.

I'm going to do a little post about how much I love dumplings tomorrow. I hope you don't mind if I link you?

If your little girl grows up as lovable as eg I will claim responsibility because they were both reared on my chicken and dumplings. Thanks for the comment! How does your Italian feel about them?

I've been meaning to post a comment here for a while but I kept forgetting!

Thank you for posting this recipe, I've made it twice in last few weeks and it is wonderful! My daughter loves it- all of it, the chicken, the vegetables and the dumplings. She says "mmmm" with every little piece she puts in her mouth. I don't say it with every bit I put in mine, but it's what I'm thinking.

I like the dumplings with the egg better too.
