It happens every Friday

[photopress:Logo_cucina_americana.jpg,full,pp_image] Starting this Friday, the 21st of March, one of the American cooks will post a genuine and traditional American dish on her own blog. All the other bloggers in the ring will post and point you at whose turn it is.

This Friday Mary of Abruzzo Flavors will inject a little American flavor into your day and in your language, whether it is English or Italian.

I am really looking forward to seeing what y\’all come up with. I love reading about food and one of my favourite \’bedtime\’ reading food books is \’With bold knife and fork\’ MFK Fisher, a wonderful feisty American woman originally writing for the New Yorker. Her insights into the history of American tastes and cooking are fascinating. A great read and some great recipes.

MFK Fisher is one of my great heroines. I have several of her books from the Forties! My kid likes her, too. Have you read “How to Cook a Wolf”?

No, but I like the sound of it. I love her writing, she reminds of an American version of Elizabeth David (an inspirational British cookery writer of about the same period). I really enjoy reading about Fishers childhood in the mid west and of her early travels through Europe when America and England were just awakening to all the vibrant flavours of \’foreign\’ food. Have you read any Elizabeth David?

Just cookery books, I am afraid. Fisher is a famous writer for us, and also spent a very interesting life. Iris Murdoch should have known her!
