Is Italy the Wrong Place for a Vacation?
I guess you know what I think. I have been somewhat disturbed, however, by reading the exchange between my pal Alex and one of his commenters right here in this article.
Alex gets more traffic from his one post about unfair traffic tickets issued in Pisa than any other work he has done. (My single most read post is on how to be beautiful in This post is a follow-up. In the comments, however, it has become a damnation of much that makes up Italy.
Please read it and tell me what you think. I admit I find it exaggerated, but I might be wrong. From the inside I am not seeing all these problems, although problems there are. I really want to hear what others think.

Actually, Judith, I get quite a lot of traffic to my iPhone post too!
Remember too, that the commenter is but one person of many millions who come to Italy annually. Some will have bad experiences, and ripping off tourists has been a hobby for many years in many places around the world, not just in Italy.
Another thing which caught my attention about the person who made the comment was that she was probably not a first time Italy visitor, and she was really just unhappy about Rome, not so much the rest of Italy. She had seen quite a lot of Italy from what she wrote.
Like many other destinations, it is a good idea to do some research before visiting, and this, with the advent of the www, has become much easier thankfully.
And I would never put people off coming to Italy.
Best,
Alex
Judith what I posted on Alex’s site-
We haven’t been to Rome in over ten years and our ‘Italian’ daughter, she was studying in Firenze for the year, was our tour guide. Italy was still on the Lira and I didn’t really feel cheated. We haven’t been Rome except for maybe two days but have spent plenty of time in Umbria and Campania since 1998. Except for the occasional taxi ride I never felt cheated and have always felt that I was treated with respect!
