I am in my third day of not smoking. I’ll return as soon as I can stop banging my head on the sidewalk.

Congratulations! One day at a time and, eventually, you will feel that quitting was the best thing you ever did! At least that’s how I feel now, 12 years later. I was a 3 pack a dayer, and didn’t believe I ever would want to (or could) quit. Marking the days off on a calender, for some reason, helped me.
Best of luck to you!
Donna

Judith,
Just wanted to say I used to smoke 2+ packs a day (back when the cost was such that that wouldn’t bankrupt you), and I finally was able to kick the habit. You can too–so hang in there—even if it means you have to keep banging your ehad on the sidewalk!!!
Good to meet and visit in Civitella, and thanks for the plug for il Sogno.
Chris

Thanks for all the support, folks. If I tell you that this round of smoking follows a quit-period of seven years, I guess I’ll look really stupid, eh?
Yesterday may have been the hump day, because this morning when I woke up it felt like the furry beast with claws didn’t live in my stomach anymore. (I think it’s still on my shoulder, though.)
I plan to invest the $3091 p/a saved, and not burn holes in my clothes anymore.

Yeah! This year will mark my mom’s 16th year without those bad boys…now if only P will join the trend.
In bocca al lupo :)

Good job Judith! Hang in there. I’m celebrating 12 years of being smoke free and don’t miss it for anything. Put that fortune away (cigarettes cost a lot of money!) and treat yourself to a vacation.

Forza, Judith!

Stop doing that! You’ll get a headache and need a cigarette!!
Brava for quitting!

Argh! The reason I am not posting is that I am altering all my habitual behaviors to disguise the big one from myself.
I am very crabby. So far not WANTING hasn’t happened. Tonight will be my first time out in six days. Does one wear shoes?

Good luck! It is coming up to 4 years for me. I didn\’t quit the hard way like you did, I ended up in the hospital for about three weeks with double pneumonia, fluid in lungs, etc. Have to say I haven\’t really wanted a smoke since I got out and I used to go through about 3+ packs a day.
Again, Good Luck!

good luck!

Keep it up Judith, it does get better. I used to clean my teeth everytime I got a really bad craving somehow the clean/mint thing seemed to help. Not so easy when you are out tho, I found myself drinking like a fish to make up for it. Also not good. So I stayed in for months and flossed instead, guess it made my dentist happy.

Shoes=good. Especially in winter.

Judith—how\’re you doing? And yes, bleeding espresson is right–shoes are important.

Doing OK, although I may be contributing to world hunger with the amount of cabbage soup I am consuming.
I went out three times and wore shoes each time. Someone smoked next to me last night, didn’t bother me.
Today in a mad search for a missing bancomat card I found three cigarettes. I am glad that wasn’t a few days ago.
